He said: "The nearer you are to the North Sea the worst it will be and all of Essex is 20 miles from the North Sea.
"This could be a three to four week cold spell and something we have not seen since December 2010.
"They, at the Met Office, are saying this is going to be a severe event.
"We could get to low temperatures we have not seen for a very long time."
Mr Defty believes, if the weather behaves as the Met Office has predicted then we will have a combination of conditions which could cause mayhem.
He added: "It was 1987 the last time these exact conditions came together.

Bring it on, I lived in Minnesota where temps routinely go below 0 F and sometimes go as low as minus 30 F anything above that, is t-shirt weather

And milk is only available in solid form, and bread needs to be in the toaster at full blast for an hour and three minutes - an hour to thaw, the rest to get brown.
In a good Winter in Minnesota.

To be fair, when I first suffered those temps, I thought fuck me this is cold, it literally took your breath away, but after a couple of winters, you get used to it, some people say your blood gets thicker, don't know whether it's true or not?

Only forecasts for 10 days, Weather drops below zero tomorrow and still below zero on Saturday 3rd.
Lowest -9
Here it's 20-30pm and 28oC aircon on 23oC ner ner ner ner ner

A lot of cold is relative even in the same year.
As a kid if it got above 0 and the snow started to melt, it was shorts weather as far as we were concerned.
But six months later, go on a camp up in the mountains, 20ish during
the day but dips below 0, with a skim of snow at night, we are freezing to death.

Heaven!! When I were a lad we used to sleep inside an iceberg with a fan blowing cold air and sit inside a freezer next to the fan!!
